Spandau

Spandau bei Berlin - mehr als nur ein Bezirk

Spandau liegt zum größten Teil am westlichen Ufer der Havel und besitzt große Wald- und Wasserflächen, die als Ausflugsgebiet genutzt werden. Internationale Bekanntheit erlangte Spandau 1947, als die Verurteilten der Nürnberger Prozesse im Kriegsverbrechergefängnis Spandau inhaftiert wurden.

Spandau wurde als Handelssiedlung an eine Havel-Furt 1197 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt und erhielt 1232 Stadtrecht, geriet allerdings schon bald in den Schatten Berlins.

Die Zitadelle Spandau ist eine der interessantesten Sehenswürdigkeiten Spandaus und Berlins insgesamt. Die im Jahre 1559 bis 1594 an Stelle einer mittelalterlichen Burg erbaute Festung liegt nord-östlich der Spandauer Altstadt am anderen Havelufer.
