Double exposures:

These double exposures where shot with my 30 years old Canon A-1 on 35mm film. There is no digital image manipulation, just plain one to one scans from the negativ film.

This technique has become my new passion. I work in a very concentrated manner searching new situations for my picture . I imagine spontaneously what I want to combine in this specific double exposure. There are three themes which I want to follow in this work:

1.: -This abstraction comes directly from the light. Sometimes the picture has an overload from this light-information and is getting even more confused but sometimes there will be suddenly a new form crystallized and cut out by the light. The light has the power to extinguish information while enhancing contrast and emphasizing details at the same time. These crystallized forms are the essence of that moment and condense the situation to one single newborn abstract form.

2.: There ist the mirror technique by turning the Camera over 180 degrees between the two exposures, which gives us the illusion of a new abstract landscape. Sometimes we see a lake without a lake..

But there is a time shift between the two-, or sometimes up to four exposures. The static environment is truly mirrored but the moving objects like people or cars or animals etc. are different in the next exposure on the same picture.

3: I want to play with the time shift in a second way , without changing the camera position so we can see what the light will do with the moving objects, showing us the transience of these moments and people walk through people like ghosts.

But I would like to continue with my habit, holding the camera in my hands, to prevent myself that I never will kill my pictures with a conceptual strategy.
